Location: Cairo Alexandria Desert Road, Egypt.
Date: 2001.
When we first conceived the idea for the Cairo Alexandria Desert Road Rest House, we aimed to offer users a unique spatial experience that would allow them to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and connect with nature in a more instinctual way.
Our vision was to transport users to the desert and provide them with an opportunity to experience the sense of calm, freedom, and instinct that comes with being in nature. To achieve this, we decided to use simple and raw materials that would be able to withstand the harsh weather conditions of the desert environment while also connecting users to their primal instincts.
We were very mindful of the environment when designing the rest house. We incorporated features such as natural ventilation, proximity to the ground, and plenty of natural lighting to connect users with their surroundings and the natural world.
