Qana Craft Center

Location:  Qana, Egypt.
Date: 2021.

The Qana Craft Center was created to address this issue by providing women in Qena with a space to work and earn a living while also preserving their cultural heritage. The center was designed to be a place where women can utilize their manual skills and talents to create handmade crafts and products that reflect the rich cultural traditions of their city. By doing so, they can earn a living and support their families, while also preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage of Qena.

The idea for the Qana Craft Center was inspired by the desire to create a space where women in Qena could work and earn a living without having to leave their homes or travel far from their families and land. The project was designed to be a large house or building that would provide a safe and comfortable space for women to work in their homes, while also ensuring that they had the freedom to move around and work independently.

The center was carefully designed to take into account the needs and preferences of the women who would be working there. Soundproofing, privacy, and visual barriers were incorporated into the design to ensure that women could work in a space that was comfortable and conducive to their needs. Mashrabiyas and visual barriers, which are traditional features of Egyptian homes, were also used in the design to preserve the cultural heritage of the region.

In addition to providing a space for women to work and earn a living, the Qana Craft Center also serves as a hub for the community. It is a place where people can come together to share their skills, knowledge, and experiences, and to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Qena. The center offers a range of workshops and classes, providing opportunities for people to learn new skills and crafts and to connect with others who share their interests.

Overall, the Qana Craft Center is a testament to the creativity, resourcefulness, and resilience of the people of Qena. It is a place where women can work and earn a living while also preserving their cultural heritage, and it serves as a hub for the community, bringing people together and celebrating the unique traditions and customs of this beautiful city.
